I did my PhD at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur where I studied auditory processing in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and cortical and sub-cortical connections to OFC that shape those responses. I joined McGinley lab in June 2021 where I study how attentional effort is encoded in the sensory cortex and how this information is integrated into frontal circuits in mice. I also study how brain state changes modulate sensory representation in the auditory system. I enjoy having beer and cooking on weekends.
Postdoctoral Associate
Grew up in Yilan, Taiwan. Started research with Dr. Chih-Tien Wang at the National Taiwan University, testing stage 2 retinal wave in rats and the underlying molecular mechanism. I acquired my Ph.D. in biophysics under the instruction of Dr. Meyer Jackson at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My thesis studied synaptic fusion pores, SNARE proteins, and neurotransmission in mice. The skills I developed during that time include patch-clamp, molecular biology, and electron microscopy. Joined the Lab for postdoctoral training during the pandemic in 2020. My project is to investigate subthreshold responses of auditory cortical neurons with in-vivo whole-cell recordings. And my personal goal is to hone the programming skill that facilitates brain function studies.
My biggest interest besides research is reading Japanese manga and light novels. I also like all kinds of video games and love to watch GDQ. I am learning drawing and computer graphics and hope one day I can create whatever I want with just a pencil and some paper.
Senior Scientific Programmer
I earned my first M.S. degree in Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology from East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. My study focused on radio frequency (RF) circuit design and RF signal processing. I obtained another M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, USA. My research focused on computer vision and radar technology. I joined Dr. Matthew McGinley’s lab in June 2020. My assignment is to provide engineering support, mainly setting up Data Acquisition System and coding LabVIEW programs to help our lab members run their experiments automatically.
My hobbies include spending time with my family and watching movies. I am a big fan of cooking.
Laboratory Manager
Born and raised in Texas, I grew up outside of the Dallas metroplex and attended University at Texas A&M University-Commerce with an interest in biology and medicine. I began my research career under Dr. Larry Lemanski at the university where we were interested in a specific cardiac inducing RNA that can differentiate fibrous tissue into contracting cardiomyocytes. Following graduation, I took a position as a Research Assistant at MD Anderson Cancer Center under Dr. Subrata Sen while obtaining my master’s degree in healthcare administration from Louisiana State University - Shreveport. After my time at MD Anderson I began working under Dr. Yong Xu in the department of Pediatrics as a Technician where I assisted in maintaining the mouse colony and genotyping for the lab. In December of 2022, I took up the position of Laboratory Manager in Dr. McGinley’s lab.
Outside of the lab I am currently interested in finding a good book to read, exploring different food places in Houston, any sort of outdoors activities, and rooting for the Dallas Stars.
Graduate Research Assistant
Growing up just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, my interest in engineering and biomedicine led me to attend Georgia Institute of Technology as an undergraduate. My first foray into research began in Dr. Yuhong Fan’s lab where I studied the effects of histone modification in cancer cells. Prior to graduating, I decided to continue my education at Georgia Institute of Technology and enrolled in their combined bachelor’s degree and master’s degree program. I remained in Dr. Fan’s lab and completed my master’s thesis work on the efficacy of a newly developed biosensor for tracking oxidative stress in chromatin. Following graduation, I enrolled in the Development, Disease Models, and Therapeutics (DDMT) PhD program at Baylor College of Medicine bringing me to Houston, Texas. With a growing interest in neuroengineering, I joined Dr. Matthew McGinley’s lab in 2022. After joining, I determined that an engineering education would better suit my interests and career goals and have since enrolled in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) M.S/PhD program at Rice University. Currently, I am developing a new behavioral acquisition system to study the neural basis of spatial hearing in mice.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy exploring Houston with my friends, spending time with my pets, and finding new books to read.

Postdoctoral Associate
After obtaining my B.S. in biometric systems from West Virginia University, I began my career in auditory neuroscience as a postbac at NIDCD. Under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Weisz, I worked to build a single-cell computational model of the medial olivocochlear efferent neurons of the mouse. I went on to attain my Ph.D. at the University of Washington in the lab of Dr. Adrian KC Lee where I measured functional connectivity from human M/EEG data during a dual-stream auditory attention task. As a postdoctoral researcher in the McGinley lab, I am working toward building a closed-loop system that uses pupillometry as biomarker of arousal and makes real-time adjustments in an auditory learning task in order to optimize learning.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy spending time in nature, playing volleyball with friends, and singing covers of my favorite songs.
